The award for HR Management Excellence were based on parameters such as company's performance management system, number of training days per employee, training expenses as percentage of total employee cost, succession planning, gender mix and innovative practices to improve HR management. ONGC’s training program 'Exponent' caters to executives across the organization – from GT Training to Proficiency Enhancement to Succession Planning – a 360 degree approach that is one of its kind in the Public Sector domain. The training facilities in ONGC are the best in the country. This combined with a slew of HR initiatives makes ONGC stand tall when it comes to excellence in Human Resource Management. ONGC has been awarded the Randstad Award for being the most attractive employer in 2013 as well and speaks volumes about the HR management of the Maharatna.

Mr Sudhir Vasudeva highlighted the various initiatives taken by ONGC and underscored the important role played by PSEs in the growth story of the country.

The PSE Excellence Awards have been instituted by Indian Chamber of Commerce in association with Department of Public Enterprises, GoI to recognize excellence in public sector undertakings that have been the flag bearers in taking India's growth agenda forward. The evaluation framework has been designed by leading professional consultancy firm Deloitte and a panel of eminent jury members deliberated and decided on the winners in each category based on an organization’s performance on pre- decided criteria. Nominations were received from 44 PSEs in various categories.
