Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) today received the Golden Peacock Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Award -2013 in the Oil Production Category. CMD ONGC Sudhir Vasudeva, Director Exploration & I/c HSE Narendra K Verma and ED-Chief HSE M L Jain received the award- a trophy and a citation from Hon’ble Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Manish Tewari at New Delhi.

This award is a reflection of the truly responsible corporate citizen that ONGC is, which is at the forefront of environment protection and best HSE practices. The oil and gas industry, in its very nature, is known to stand precariously on fragile ecological grounds. Exploration and production of hydrocarbon involves risk and close interaction with surrounding environment. To safeguard the working and surrounding environment, ONGC has adopted a well-defined HSE policy focusing on occupational health, safe operation and control of pollution.

The jury recognized the ‘Humsafe’ campaign launched in the year 2012 and ‘Safe Contract Workers’ launched in 2013 by ONGC as worthy of recognition as part of best practices towards betterment of occupational health and safety standards at its work-centers. The ‘Humsafe’ campaign was designed to spur everyone to think safety and act safely for themselves and their team. The Humsafe pledge reads as follows: “To establish a Sustainable, Safe and World-Class working environment in ONGC, I promise to be safe myself & will leave no stone unturned for the safety of my team and colleagues”. The ‘Safe Contract Workers’ was part of initiative launched by CMD Sudhir Vasudeva, declaring year 2013 as dedicated towards safety of contract workforce. Earlier, to improve upon the safety culture among contract workers, a series of workshops with participation by senior management of both ONGC as well as contractors was arranged during the period FY 2010-11 under the campaign "Safe Together – Tomorrow” and “Effective supervision is the Key."
