ONGC has bagged three Economic Times Energy Leadership Awards 2022 for its smart work, innovation and modern skill set that has allowed the Energy Maharatna to spearhead long-term profitability in India’s energy sector. CMD and Director (HR) Dr Alka Mittal secured the Energy Woman of the Year Award, while ONGC won the Energy Company of Year (Large Cap) Award and was also announced the runners-up of the Star PSU of Year Award.
The two-day mega event of ET Energy Leadership Summit & Awards 2022 kick started on 16 June at the Hyatt Regency, New Delhi, with a stellar list of speakers and a modern and ambitious agenda making it a marquee industry initiative.

The summit was centered around agendas like charting India’s COP27 agenda, the role of gas in boosting energy security, India’s 300-GW solar target, India’s oil strategy for the next decade and the country’s hydrogen economy.
Discussions also focused on other related but crucial topics such as clean mobility challenges, rejuvenating RE growth through wider and equitable energy access, data in energy, managing power supply, boosting gender parity in energy leadership, and targeting India’s gas-based economy.
The session included an independent jury, chaired by Anil Razdan, former Additional Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, along with a few others including Indu Shekhar Chaturvedi, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India; Abhay Kumar Singh, Chairman & Managing Director, NHPC; Manu Srivastava, Principal Secretary, Government of Madhya Pradesh; Atul Bagai, Country Director – India, United Nations Environment Programme; Vibha Dhawan, DG, TERI; C Laxma Reddy, Additional Director General (Exploration), Directorate General of Hydrocarbons.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Mr Razdan asserted that the energy industry is on the cusp of transformation and to change to the new ecosystem, one needs to be risk-taking and customer-friendly. “The energy industry touches every citizen of our country. The comprehensive awards touch diverse segments of the industry like startups, research institutes, PSUs, equipment manufacturers, women leaders as well as energy storage for new energy sources and clean mobility,” he said.
The jury debated on the nominations for the awards and then reached a consensus.
Besides PSUs, private sector leaders who would grace the occasion include President, GE South Asia Mahesh Palashikar, Global CEO of Hero Future Energies Srivatsan Iyer, VP - Central Offer Marketing & BD, Schneider Electric India Nikhil Pathak, President-AG&P LNG Terminals & Logistics Karthik Sathyamoorthy, and MD & CEO of Pipeline Infrastructure Ltd Akhil Mehrotra, to name a few.
Mr Palashikar said that energy is going to be at the forefront of developing India. “Our path towards ‘Net Zero’ will be a balance between renewables and a gradual reduction in fossil fuels, leveraging our natural endowment. Gas will also be a transition fuel for power generation. The carbon footprint of gas-based power can be further reduced by the use of Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) with compelling economics. The energy industry is looking to put India on the World Green Energy map.”
The Energy Leadership Summit was organized by ET Energyworld, part of ET Verticals, in partnership with GE, AG&P, Schneider Electric, Locusview, Hitachi Energy, Pipeline Infrastructure Limited, Hero Future Energies, Sterlite Power, OMC Power and ET Now. The event is also supported by United Nations Environment Program.
It was meant to serve as a platform for quality discussion and debate on the key opportunities and challenges in the energy domain and decoding the developments in the financial, technological and regulatory landscape of the crucial energy resources.
It comes at a time when the global and the Indian energy sector is getting increasingly focused on the role played by the energy resources in shaping the narrative around climate change and net-zero, apart from the need to take quick steps to address the supply chain and demand-related issues caused by the pandemic.
