ONGC sportspersons have brought glory to the Nation in their respective categories in the ongoing Asian Games 2018 at Jakarta. ONGCians have bagged 6 medals including 3 Silver and 3 Bronze, contributing to the 38 medal tally of Team India.

ONGC’s Apurvi Chandela won bronze for India in 10 meters Air Rifle Mixed Team in the team event, while ONGCians Ankita Raina won Bronze in Women’s Single Tennis, Shardul Vihan won the Silver in Men’s Double Trap Shooting, Heena Sidhu won Bronze in women’s 10 m air pistol, Hima Das won the Silver in Women’s 400m and Dharun Ayyasamy bagged the Silver in Men’s 400 m Hurdles in the individual capacity at the Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta.

Mr Shashi Shanker, CMD, ONGC congratulated the players for bringing laurels for India and assured ONGC’s commitment towards sports and sportspersons. He said that the management would stand shoulder to shoulder with the sportspersons and be there for them as pillars of support.

Out of six, four medals are won by women sportspersons, which echoes ONGC’s core value of being an equal opportunity employer and that it promotes gender equality. Talent has no gender and ONGC is always at the forefront to promote the talent at the highest level.

Thirty-eight ONGC sportspersons are in the Indian contingent for the Jakarta Asiad, the biggest participation from corporate India.

ONGC has a total no. of 173 active players on board across 17 disciplines - Athletics, Basketball, Badminton, Billiard & Snooker, Boxing, Carrom, Chess, Cricket, Football, Golf, Hockey, Kabaddi, Lawn Tennis, Shooting, Table Tennis, Volleyball and Wrestling.

Today, ONGC has 40 national awardees in the organization (Padma Bhusan - 1, Khel Ratna – 1, Padma Shri – 3, Arjuna – 34 & Dhyanchand Award – 1). In the recently held Common Wealth Games 2018 at Gold Coast, Australia, ONGC sports person bagged 13 medals including 5 Gold, 3 Silver and 5 Bronze, contributing to the 66 medal tally for India.

The President of India acknowledged ONGC’s contribution to sports by conferring the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar in 2014.
