In a swift turnaround after defeat to Australia, Indian men’s hockey squad beat Spain 3-0 in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. This helped the men in blue inch closer to clinching a berth in the quarter-finals. It was an amazing display of sportsmanship as the team recovered for the demoralizing defeat in the previous game within a day. Team India has earlier registered a close 3-2 win against New Zealand. India now has 6 points in 3 matches, with two wins and one loss.

This year, three ONGCians are part of the Indian men’s hockey squad – Mandeep Singh, Gurjant Singh and Sumit Kumar. All the three ace players have already clinched several accolades to their name. International star Mandeep Singh won bronze medal in Odisha men’s hockey world league final at Bhubaneswar in 2017, silver medal at Robobank men’s hockey championship at Breda Holland in 2018, gold medal in Hero Asian champions trophy at Oman in 2018, bronze medal at XVIII Asian Games at Indonesia in 2018 and gold medal at FIH men’s series final at Bhubaneswar in 2019. He was also the part of the national squad who reached till semi-finals in the XXI Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast Australia in 2018.

Gurjant Singh’s major achievements include gold medal at Hero Asia Cup at Bangladesh in 2017, bronze medal at Odisha men’s hockey world league at Bhubaneswar in 2017, gold medal at Hero Asian championship trophy at Oman in 2018, gold medal at FIH men’s series at Bhubaneswar in 2019. Third ONGCian representing India in Hockey, Sumit Kumar clinched gold medal at Hero Asia Cup at Bangladesh in 2017, Odisha men’s hockey world league at Bhubaneswar in 2017, Silver medal at Sultan Azlan Shah Cup at Malaysia in 2019, Gold medal at FIH men’s series in 2019, among others. He was also part of the Senior Men Indian Team during the Argentina tour in 2021.
