Following focus sectors have been covered under Schedule VII of the Companies Act 2013:

  1. Eradicating hunger, poverty and malnutrition, promoting preventive health care and sanitation and making available safe drinking water, Swachh Bharat Kosh and Ganga Action Plan.
  2. Promoting education, including special education and employment    enhancing vocation skills especially among children, women, elderly and the differently abled and livelihood enhancement projects.
  3. Promoting gender equality, empowering women, setting up homes and hostels for women and orphans, setting up age homes , day care centres and such other facilities for senior citizens and measure for reducing inequalities faced by socially and economically backward groups.
  4. Ensuring environmental sustainability, ecological balance, protection of flora and fauna, animal welfare, agroforestry, conservation of natural resources and maintaining quality of soil, air and water.
  5. Protection of national heritage, art and culture including restoration of buildings and sites of historical importance and works of art, setting up public libraries, promotion and development of traditional and handicrafts.
  6. Measures for the benefit of armed forces veterans, war widows and their dependents.
  7. Training to promote rural sports, nationality recognized sports, Paralympic sports and Olympic Sports.
  8. Contribution to the Prime Minister’s national relief fund or any other fund set up by the Central Government for Socio-economic development and relief and welfare of the Scheduled Castes, the scheduled tribes, other backward classes, minorities and women.
  9. Contribution to incubators funded by Central Government or State Government or any agency or Public Sector Undertaking of Central Government or State Government, and contributions to public funded Universities, Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), National Laboratories and Autonomous Bodies (established under the auspices of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology) engaged in conducting research in science, technology, engineering and medicine aimed at promoting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
  10. Rural Development projects
  11. Slum Area Development
  12.      Disaster management, including relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction activities.

Indicative List of Projects/Programs covered under Focus Sectors as per Schedule VII

(i) Promoting Healthcare & Poverty Eradication: The Company’s CSR initiatives in the Healthcare & Poverty Eradication area shall include activities aimed at eradicating hunger, poverty and malnutrition, promoting preventive health care and sanitation and making available safe drinking water. These may include, but not be limited to, the following:

  1. Preventive healthcare services;
  2. Organizing periodic health camps/ medical check-ups;
  3. Donating medical infrastructure to local hospitals and primary health centers;
  4. Operating mobile dispensaries;
  5. Organizing blood donation camps at various locations;
  6. Reducing child mortality and improving maternal health;
  7. Improving functionality of the health care systems through provision of reliable electricity, safe drinking water and sanitation, setting up mass hand-washing facilities in school and institutionalizing health and civic awareness;
  8. Collaborating with Government and/or partnering with civil society in the form of accredited organizations/ institutions across the country for poverty alleviation/eradication and implementation of sustainable models.
  9. Provision of free generic health or specific disease focused screening, counselling and treatment protocol as feasible to the poor and needy sections of the community around our workplace on a periodic basis.
  10. Where applicable, the projects may be linked or ride on Government schemes.
  11. Health schemes for elderly people: Specific health schemes targeting the senior citizens and providing the relief measures can be implemented.
  12. Another extension of the health based schemes for the elderly may be the creation of “Old age homes” for the needy and neglected among the elderly, palliative care and specialized geriatric care. 
  13.  Immunization programs for children.
  14. To improve infrastructure and working of institutions catering to the need of poor physically and mentally challenged people such as homes for physically and mentally challenged people run by Government and other social organizations.
  15. Special camps, counselling services and running of appropriate vocational courses for physically and mentally challenged people.

(ii) Promoting Education & Livelihood Enhancement: The Company’s CSR initiatives in the area of promotion of Education and Livelihood enhancement may aim at promoting access to education, including special education and employment enhancing vocational skills, especially among children, women, elderly and the differently abled and livelihood enhancement projects. The broad activities may include, but not be limited to the following:

  1. Setting up of an endowment fund for granting scholarship to deserving students from marginalized sections of the society;
  2. Interventions aimed at promoting education for children, especially for the girl child and thereby arresting drop-out rates;
  3. Infrastructure for schools, colleges, etc., particularly for the differently abled and disadvantaged sections of society;
  4. Distribution of IT hardware to rural training centres, schools including those for the differently abled persons, especially visually impaired, etc.;
  5. Providing financial assistance for mid-day / supplementary meal facilities in schools;
  6. Supporting computer literacy by promoting IT education in schools/ village community centres, through establishing Smart Classes;
  7. Organizing literacy camps;
  8. Undertaking financial literacy initiatives on a sustained basis in rural as well as urban areas for all target groups, especially vulnerable sections of society like women;
  9. Financing Skill development courses, including vocational and livelihood training, for target groups including women, elderly, unemployed and underprivileged youth;
  10. Assisting the rural populace through Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETI) in taking up self-employment / trades and extending them credit assistance, at concessional interest rate, etc; and
  11. Initiating and supporting livelihood activities at the local level based on existing skills and resources.

(iii) Promoting Gender Equality and Socio-economic Empowerment: The Company’s CSR initiatives in the area of promoting Gender Equality and Socioeconomic Empowerment may include interventions aimed at promoting gender equality and empowering women, among others. The related activities may include, but not be limited to, the following activities:

  1. Promoting gender equality and empowering women through financing of capacity building programmes, livelihood training, etc;
  2. Setting up homes and hostels for women and orphans;
  3. Setting up old age homes, day care centres and such other facilities for senior citizens,
  4. Measures for reducing inequalities faced by socially and economically backward groups;
  5.  Rehabilitation of / providing infrastructure and other support facilities to Schools ‘and Hostels (including for the differently abled), particularly in rural areas;
  6. Provision/Distribution of amenities/ equipments to orphanages, old age homes, etc.;
  7. Building shelter homes
  8. Reduction in Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR).
  9. Enrolment of girl child and improved literacy levels of the female population is the key to empowerment of women.

(iv) Ensuring Environmental Sustainability: The Company’s CSR initiatives in the Environment sector may include ensuring environmental sustainability (including climate change), ecological balance, protection of flora and fauna, animal welfare, agro-forestry, conservation of natural resources and maintaining quality of soil, air and water. The broad activities under this sector may include, but not be limited to, the following activities:

  1. Tree plantation programmes, rain water harvesting, etc.;
  2. Protection of endangered species of animals/birds, etc.;
  3. Promotion and installation of renewable energy systems;
  4. Promoting Energy Efficiency concepts and practices;
  5. Encouraging development & diffusion of environment-friendly technologies (solar energy systems, improved cook stoves, water recycling unit, etc.);
  6. Conservation of natural resources; and
  7. Undertaking initiatives that aim to reduce, recycle and reuse waste in an innovative manner.
  8. To mitigate the sufferings of villagers located near operational areas and / or other drought prone water scarcity areas particularly facing drinking water problems (both quantity and quality) by technically feasible projects.

(v) Preservation and protection of National Heritage, Art and Culture: The Company may take up CSR activities aimed at protection of national heritage, art and culture, including restoration of buildings, sites of historical importance and works of Art; setting up public libraries; promotion and development of traditional arts and handicrafts.

  1. Promotion of artisans, craftsman, musicians, artists etc. for preservation of heritage, art and culture
  2. Need for the promotion of art, artisans, craft and craftsmen, particularly the not so popular ones and those likely to fade away with time.
  3. Focus on the local craftsmen or the people belonging to the tribal belts, as far as possible near our work centres.
  4. Need to repackage and redesign the promotional campaigns for the artisans and craftsmen.
  5. To help set up small scale production facility or providing the financial help to groups approaching to promote the local crafts.
  6. To help artisans and craftsmen is to provide market linkage and demand for them to have a source of income based on their art / craft products

(vi) Welfare of Armed Forces Veterans and Dependents: The Company’s CSR initiatives in this area may include measures for the welfare of armed forces veterans, war widows and their dependents.

(vii) Promotion of Sports: The Company’s CSR initiatives in this area may include providing support for training to promote rural sports, nationally recognized sports, Paralympic sports and Olympic sports. The activities may include, but not be limited to the following:

  1. Financial support to sports academies across the country for developing/ promoting sports, preferably, at the grass-root level; and
  2. Providing financial assistance to deserving sports persons, particularly those who are differently abled or belong to underprivileged sections of society.
  3. To promote rural sports and organize annual sports meet etc. in the villages by providing the equipments and other facilities and sponsoring deserving local sportsman for training and development at national sports institutes

(viii) Contribution to Central Government Relief and Welfare Funds: The Company’s CSR initiatives in this area may include contribution to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund or any other fund set up by the Central Government for socioeconomic development and relief and welfare of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, other backward classes, minorities and women.

(ix) Contribution to Technology Incubators: The Company’s CSR initiatives in this area may include contributions or funds provided to technology incubators located within academic institutions approved by the central government.

(x) Rural Development Projects: The Company’s CSR initiatives in this area may include activities aimed at rural development through, among others, the following initiatives:

  1. Adoption of villages, particularly in underdeveloped/ backward districts by undertaking reconstruction or rehabilitation in a holistic manner;
  2. Providing infrastructure and other support facilities to schools, health centres, hospitals, etc. located in rural areas;
  3. Improving accessibility to water, especially drinking water, through installation /repair of hand pumps, tube wells, wells and other such water distribution / facilities;
  4. Building and promoting usage of sanitation facilities in rural areas especially in rural schools;
  5. Promoting and educating about use of alternate and renewable sources of energy through the installation of solar lights and other similar infrastructure; and
  6. Developing information centres for rural populace to aid economic and social progress in the rural areas.

(xi) Slum Area Development: The Company’s CSR initiatives in this area may include activities aimed at slum area development through, among others, the following initiatives

  1. Improve the quality of life of slum residents, including increase the standard of Health, Education and Community life.
  2. Sustainable improvements in the standards of Living, skill up gradation / increase potential income of people living in slums and reduce gender disparity, drug addiction etc.
  3. Capacity of local people and their institutions to engage with local authorities and other service providers for the sustainable provision of basic services.
  4. Scale-up the delivery of basic infrastructure services for safe water, sanitation, better and affordable housing, and waste removal through collaborative efforts with local people and municipal authorities.
  5. Income-generation activities
  6. Supplementary education to the school going and dropout children’s, nutritious food to the malnourished children’s, medical advice from general physician, medical services, immunization concept to the mothers, and vocational training to the adult women.
