ONGCians Achieve Exceptional Feat in Australian Open 2019

ONGCian table tennis duo Mr. Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Mr. Amalraj Anthony scripted history on Friday by reaching the men’s doubles semi-finals at the Australian Open at Geelong from 9-14 July 2019.

This is the first time an Indian Men pair reached the semi-final at an ITTF World Tour platinum event.

The memories of the Commonwealth Games 2018 came flooding back to the minds of the Indian T.T. fans watching the Australian open back home. They remembered the unexpected glory achieved in Gold Coast.

Similarly, Indian Table Tennis team for first time in the past 60-years had won medal at the Asiad 2018.

The two table tennis players who have achieved the distinction are Sr. Security Officer Mr. A. Amal Raj, and  HR executive, Mr. G. Sathiyan, both are posted at ONGC, Chennai.

The duo took on Korea’s Woojin Jang and Jonghoon Lim (Doubles seeded 3rd ) in the quarter-finals on Friday where they emerged victoriously by 5-11, 11-6, 14-12, 11-8.

ONGCian Duo lost to Jung Youngsik and LEE Sangsu of Korea in semifinal, the Korean’s outstated Chinese pair in the final and got the champion's trophy.

Congratulations to both the ONGCians and wish them good luck to continue this momentum in the forthcoming Commonwealth Championship to be held at Cuttack. hope the duo brings more laurels to the country and ONGC.
