L- R :Asian Billiards Champion Rupesh Shah alongwith National Chief Coach Manoj Kothari and Runners-up Alok Kumar in Indore It was a proud moment for ONGC as our Cue sports team members Rupesh Shah and Alok Kumar won the Gold and Silver medal respectively in the ONGC Asian Billiards Championship held in Indore from April 1-7, 2013.In the process, Rupesh Shah handed India its 10th Asian Billiards Title and won his maiden Asian Billiards title.
Rupesh Shah, riding high on confidence having won the World Billiards Championship (point format) in November last year, lived up to his billing by edging past compatriot Alok Kumar by a narrow 6-4 frame margin in a closely contested battle in the finals.
It wasn't all easy for the champion and the runner-up as they fought it out during the round stages and the semi-finals. In the Semi-finals, Alok Kumar got the better of former World Champion, PraprutChaitanasakunof Thailandby 5-3 frames whileRupesh Shah made a dramatic comeback from being down 0-3 to win the game 5 frames to 3, pulling out all his cards in a determined performance that tells a lot about his character.
The duo has brought international recognition to ONGC and made India proud.
