Training and development is one of the key HR functions. The turn of the century has seen increased focus on the same in organizations globally. ONGC Academy is an ISO 9001-2015 certified institute, and the nodal agency of ONGC for imparting training to its executives. The academy has meticulously designed a spectrum of training courses for different hierarchical levels and disciplines, technical as well as managerial relevant to the upstream petroleum industry and is committed to excellence in the cause of human resource development. ONGC has branded the spectrum of its training activities as ‘EXPONENT’- a comprehensive programme which is nurturing the energy leaders of tomorrow in the areas of exploration, engineering and technology. The growth of an ONGCian to an Exponent of energy business is facilitated by the well thought architecture of ONGC Academy, Skill Development Centres (SDCs) and other ONGC institutes. Tie-ups with globally recognized trainers are also significant enablers.
ONGC Academy has organized 235 numbers of training programs with focus on developing skills in line functions as well as managerial domain and a total of 9384 executives were imparted training during the year 2022-23.
Functional Training Programs: Trainings are imparted on emerging or new technologies/ state of the art techniques available in the market to update and bridge the knowledge gap through: a) Training programs involving in house expert faculties b). Global domain experts c). Technical workshops d). Seminar with field visit
During the year 2022-23, Functional Training Group has conducted 53 training programs in E&P and related disciplines, against a target of 44 training programs on emerging technologies.
Management Programs: 125 Management Development Programs have been conducted against the target of 113 programs. After Covid pandemic, for developing critical mass of leaders through structured programs, Senior Management Program (SMP) was restored and 100 executives of E5 level were trained during 2022-23.
06 Future Energy Leaders Programs were organized for E1 to E3 level executives through ASCI, Hyderabad and 04 ONGC Young Leaders Programs were organized through IIM Indore for E4 to E5 level executives
GT Induction Training: During the year 2022-23, 554 Graduate Trainees in five batches have undergone induction training in offline mode. Graduate Trainees also got the opportunities to interact with the top management of the organization and other dignitaries / Guest speakers, who shared their vision and experiences with youngsters to follow during their long tenure with ONGC.
Sponsored Programs: 1669 executives were sponsored in 48 programs for training / workshops / seminars / conferences. Out of the above, 103 executives were sponsored in 12 programs abroad.
New initiatives/highlights undertaken by ONGC Academy during 2022-23 are as under:
- Harvard Manage Mentor program was launched in 2021 for one year time frame and was completed successfully by 1532 identified executives in November, 2022. Harvard Manage Mentor is a world class leadership and management e-learning platform
- ONGC Academy on-boarded Learning Management Software (LMS) of Ministry of IT and National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) initiated by seven Indian Institutes of Technology, with the objective of enhancing knowledge and skills of executives through this specific learning process So far, 232 individuals have committed a total of 353 enrollments in 133 various courses on both LMS and NPTEL platforms.
- During the year 2022-23 ONGC Academy organized summer / winter training to more than 937 students from various universities/institutions under Students’ Academic Intensive Learning (SAIL)
- Outbound activity is a regular feature of GT Training programme of ONGC Academy towards the purpose of building of team spirit, camaraderie and leadership.
