ONGC has been  conferred with the Award for best overall performance in promoting Oil & Gas Conservation in the ‘Upstream Sector’. The award was given to ONGC during  the inaugural function of ‘Sanrakhsan Kshamta Mahotsav-2017’(Saksham-2017) on 16th January 2017 at New Delhi. It came as a recognition  of the Maharatna’s efforts to promote Oil & Gas Conservation during Oil & Gas Conservation Fortnight 2016. 

ONGC has received the coveted award for the second year in succession. Mr.  Shashi Shanker, Director (T&FS) and Officiating CMD along with Mr. Tapas  Kumar Sengupta, Director (Offshore), Mr. D D Misra Director (HR), Mr. V P  Mahawar Director (Onshore) and Mr. H M Gupta ED-Chief Technical Services  received the award from Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, the Hon’ble Minister of State  (IC) for Petroleum and Natural Gas. 

The Hon’ble Minister complimented  ONGC for its awareness campaign on fuel conservation. He commended PCRA for initiating a public  Movement through संरक्षण क्षमता महोत्सव २०१७” (सक्षम २०१७). The Minister  emphasised that energy conservation should be part of our culture. Exemplifying that by simply switching off vehicles  at traffic red-lights, a sum of Rs 12000 Crore per year can be saved, and by  use of LED lights as replacement in last two years, 5000 MW of electricity  valuing Rupees 10000 Crore have been saved. He exhorted everyone to participate  in the conservation of energy through such simple measures. Earlier, Mr. Pradhan unveiled the  Logo for Saksham-2017. He also inaugurated the web-site for taking e-pledge for  energy conservation and generated the first certificate, his own, for e-pledge  of energy conservation. He appreciated the expression of pride by ONGC through  its ONGC song and urged use of such expressions of commitment to organisations  and its cause. He also acknowledged that  generation and display of e-pledge certificate shall also reflect our  commitment to this mass movement of Saksham-2017.

The event is organized every year by PCRA (Petroleum Conservation  Research Association) and other oil PSUs under the aegis of the Ministry of  Petroleum and Natural Gas. This year, the Oil & Gas Conservation event of  one month is being organized as “Sanrakhsan Kshamta Mahotsav-2017” from 16  January to 15 February 2017. 

The theme for this month long event is ‘Indhan Sanrakshn ki Zimmedari,  Jan Gan ki Bhagidari’. The inauguration function and award ceremony of Saksham-2017 was graced by Mr. A P Sawhney, AS, MoPNG, Mr. Amar Nath JS(E),  MoPNG, Mr. Ashutosh Jindal JS(M&GP) MoPNG, Ms Urvashi Sadhwani , Sr Advisor  MoPNG, Mr. B Ashok CMD IOC, Mr. M K Surana CMD HPCL, Mr. B C Tripathy CMD GAIL,  Mr. Utpal Bora CMD OIL and Mr. Alok Tripathy, ED-PCRA.

Mr. Shashi Shanker, Director (T&FS) and Officiating CMD, ONGC  complimented one and all of ONGC family for their efforts in pursuit of this  coveted honor among all the oil & gas sector companies. He urged all to  cultivate the culture of conservation in their sphere of life and interactions  and re-emphasized the words of Hon’ble Minister that a culture is more  empowering than a compulsion to any initiative.
