Aryabhata-2, the High Performance Computing Cluster (HPCC) installed at ONGC institute GEOPIC has been ranked 10th in the recently-published Top Supercomputer List of India. Earlier, Aryabhata-2 HPCC system has received NetApp Innovation Award-2016 in the Trendsetter Category, in a ceremony on 3rd March, 2016 at ITC Maratha, Mumbai.

The system was inaugurated by ONGC CMD Mr D K Sarraf in presence of EC members, at GEOPIC, on 26 January 2016 on the occasion of 67th Republic Day of India. Mr N K Verma, MD, OVL along with other Board members also graced the occasion.

Top Supercomputers-India (www.topsupercomputers-india.iisc.ernet.in) is an effort to list the most powerful supercomputers in India. It is supported by Supercomputer Education and Research Centre, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. This effort is complementary to the Top500 project that lists the top 500 supercomputers in the world.

The Supercomputers-India project is meant to create awareness all about the supercomputing initiatives in India, which can substantially lead to significant advancement in supercomputing facilities of the nation. The list is published twice a year in June and December. The 15th List was published on Dec 6, 2015. The latest List (16th) has been published on June 19, 2016. The combined supercomputing power of the nation is now 5.39 Peta Flops.

Bangalore leads the list in the number of supercomputers, with eight no of supercomputers. There are three new entries including Dehradun and Ahmedabad. Aryabhata-2 HPCC system can be considered TOP One in India, so far as commercial utilisation is concerned.

The top 15 entries of the Indian Supercomputers list are as follows:
