GGS-III fire doused
Nazira, 11.01.2013: A fire broke out at GGS (Group Gathering Station)-III under Geleky Oil-field Area of ONGC, Assam Asset, at around 05:00 PM on January 10, 2013, due to some unknown reason. A Group Gathering Station is an installation where oil comes through flow lines from various wells in the vicinity.
Immediately after the accident, the Fire Services of ONGC, Assam Asset were pressed into the service. All the senior officers led by ED-Asset Manager Mr. B.K. Baruah rushed to the spot immediately to contain the fire. With the laudable efforts of the ONGC Fire Services, the fire could be extinguished within two hours of the accident at 08:20 PM.
However, the fire left two workers dead, who were deployed by a contractor. ONGC deeply mourns the unfortunate demise of the two contractual workers and expresses its deepest anguish to their bereaved families. ONGC is also committed to extend all supports to the bereaved families as per the ONGC Policy.
The Fire Services of ONGC, Assam Asset, are closely monitoring the situation. A high level Enquiry Committee has been set up to ascertain the reasons behind the fire. ONGC has already taken full preventive measures to ward-off any untoward incident in the area.
