ONGC wins big at the WCDM-DRR Awards Ceremony for its Disaster Management endeavours
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited won the “WCDM-DRR Award” for excelling in the field of Disaster Management by “bringing new practices, improving the existing ones, upgrading the tools and skills and innovating new areas” on 22 June 2022. Director (Onshore) and I/c HSE Anurag Sharma also won the “Individual Award of Excellence” for his “outstanding contribution in the field of Disaster Preparedness for Effective and Efficient Disaster Risk Management (DRM).” The awards were presented to ONGC for making “excellent requisite measures for continual improvement in health and safety through adoption of best procedures and technologies with carrying out Exploration & Production operations in one of the most hazard and risk prone industry.”

The Chief Guest at the award ceremony was the Hon'ble Union Minister of Tourism, Culture and Development of North Eastern Region of India, G Kishan Reddy. The Guests of Honour at the DRR Awards included Former Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court (Former Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court at Chandigarh and Sitting Member, NHRC) Justice M.M. Kumar, Former Judge Delhi High Court Justice J.R. Midha, Secretary of Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Sanjay Kumar, IAS, Member Secretary of National Disaster Management Authority Kamal Kishore, Prof. Santosh Kumar from the National Institute of Disaster Management, Dean of Bennett University School of Law Prof. Nuzhat Parveen Khan (Former Dean Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia). The award ceremony was organized by the civil society initiative, Disaster Management Initiatives and Convergence Society (DMICS) that initiates innovative practices, ideas and thoughts on Disaster Management.

The World Congress on Disaster Management (WCDM) is an exceptional initiative to bring researchers, policy makers and practitioners to discuss various challenging issues of disaster risk management. Globally, WCDM is the largest global conference on disaster management outside the United Nations system. The prestigious WCDM-DRR Awards honours the Central & State Governments, Universities, Institutions, PSUs, COs, Individuals and Armed Forces for endeavours in Disaster Management.
Alongside ONGC, some other prominent awardees were DRDO, NDRF, NIDM, ICMR, IIT Delhi, GSI and DMA’s of State governments of Assam, Goa, Uttarakhand and Karnataka.
