ONGC braces Indian Table Tennis glory, ONGCian Harmeet Desai is new Commonwealth Champion
For the first time since 1975, a single nation has won all the 7 medals at one edition of Commonwealth Table Tennis championship. Out of our 11 ONGC active players at the 21st Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship 2019, held in Cuttack’s Jawaharlal Indoor Stadium during 17-22 July, nine were playing the championship for India and among them 6 were medal winners.

England tried to change the script but the Indian men brought in a twist to the tale through birthday boy ONGCian Harmeet Desai to end the English hopes to lift the Host Association's Cup.

Madhurika woke up from her passive play to tighten the noose around Emily Bolton and the ONGCian never looked back to put India on a winning path over England for a 3-0 sweep.

Champion Harmeet came from two games down to shock the top seed and ONGC mate Sathiyan 4-3 in one of the most grappling matches.

Sathiyan, the highest-ranked Indian in the world of TT at 24, appeared to live up to his rankings by winning the first two games 11-9 and 11-6. Harmeet bounced back to win the next two games 11-5, 11-8 to level the score. The fifth game was one of the most closely contested with Harmeet overcoming the rival 17-15, but Sathiyan levelled the scores with an 11-7 win in the sixth. The final game was once again a close one, but sensational Harmeet was at his best and sealed the deal with an 11-9 win.
Kirttwika Sinha & Puja Shahasrabudhe won in women's doubles by beating Sreeja Akula & Mousumi Paul 11-9, 11-8, 9-11, 12-10 in an exciting all India’s final.
