ONGC has been ranked 18th in the overall listing of global energy companies as per Platts “Top 250 Global Energy Company Ranking 2010”.The rankings have been released by Platts, in a glittering ceremony at Singapore on 2nd Nov, 2010.
This ranking of ONGC has taken it to eight steps higher as against its 26th rank in the same list last year in 2009. This is the highest ever ranking of ONGC in the list of Platts Top 250, ahead of global leaders like Conoco Phillips, Statoil, CNOOC, BG and others. The select list is topped by ExxonMobil, followed by BP, Gazprom, Petrobras and Total in that order.
Platts, the world renowned energy research agency, annually carries out global rankings of Top 250 listed energy companies evaluated on four Key Metrics – Assets, Revenues, Profits and Return on Invested Capital (ROIC).
The listing includes all energy companies operating in the areas of E&P (oil & gas exploration and production), Refining, Power, Utilities and ‘Integrated Corporates’ operating in the energy segments. In the pure E&P category, ONGC has achieved the distinction of Numero Uno ranking not only in Asia, but even on the global scale. Last year, ONGC was placed number 3 in the E&P category, behind Encana (Canada) and CNOOC (Hong Kong).
Mr. R S Sharma, CMD, ONGC, was personally invited by Platts to attend the felicitation for this distinctive achievement at their global ranking disclosure ceremony at Singapore. However, due to the ongoing Petrotech-2010, which is being organized by ONGC, Mr. Sharma was unable to personally travel to receive this honour.
Mr. N K Sinha, Company Secretary represented ONGC in this gala event of Platts on 2nd November, 2010 in Singapore. In this official function for Asia region, ONGC received the trophy for being “#1 Oil and Gas Exploration and Production in Asia”.However, ONGC has also been recognised as #1 in Oil and Gas Exploration and Production globally (the detail is available in the official website of Platts). The felicitation function for Global Energy Awards is scheduled on 2nd December, 2010 at New York.
Commenting on this distinction, Mr. Sharma said, “This prestigious stature has been possible entirely due to the consistent endeavours of Geo-scientists, Engineers, Managers and all other ONGCians in their pursuits for excellence. I complimentTeam ONGC for this fabulous ranking and wish even higher peaks in the years to come.”
