Rajahmundry Asset has re-commenced gas supplies from its Mori, Mandapeta and Pasarlapudi Gas Collecting Stations to feeder lines of Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL). Gas supplies from 13 ONGC installations were stopped on GAIL’s request, after the latter’s pipeline burst at Nagaram in June 2014. The Asset expects to re-commence gas supplies to GAIL from the remaining installations also soon.

The Asset has been supplying gas to its major consumer GAIL at the rate of 2.9 mmscmd from 13 installations connected to GAIL Gas Grid. GAIL carries this gas from the battery limit of all the installations through their feeder lines to the main trunk line grid operated by them. However, the 18” Tatipaka-Lanco sector GAIL trunk line got ruptured owing to Nagaram mishap 200 metres away from ONGC Tatipaka GCS in June this year.

Subsequent to the pipeline burst at Nagaram, GAIL had requested ONGC to stop the gas supply to grid. Ninety eight (98) producing wells of 13 installations were closed as per GAIL’s request for their pipe line integrity and safety study followed by maintenance, resulting in gas loss to the tune of 2.9 MMSCM per day and 100 TPD to the Rajahmundry Asset.

ONGC CMD and Director (Onshore) made untiring efforts with GAIL’s top management and Ministry for the early drawal of the gas from the Asset. Meanwhile, the Asset conducted several meetings with local GAIL authorities for the resumption of the gas supplies. An action plan was chalked out to start gas supply in phases where the GAIL lines were made ready after the maintenance and hydro-testing.The Asset implemented the entire SOP as recommended by Engineers India Limited (EIL) including injection of the gas corrosion system at ONGC installations. The Asset has also planned to install dehydration facilities in a phased manner as suggested by EIL.

The breakthrough came after synergy between ONGC and GAIL with the efforts of top management of both corporates with the Ministry as well as local asset management. On November 6, the gas from Mori GCS was supplied through GAIL line to the Consumer M/s APGPCL (power plant owned by the Andhra Pradesh government). Subsequently, gas supply resumed from Mandapeta GCS and Pasarlapudi GCS to GAIL feeder lines. The gas supply from these installations will reach peak in 1-2 days post GAIL consumers’ trial runs.The supply as on November 11, 2014 is given below:

“Rajahmundry Asset expects the gas supply from the remaining installations to re-commence soon, in consultation with GAIL authorities and consistent support from top management”, Asset Manager Mr Debasis Sanyal shared. The asset, meanwhile is also trying its best to regain the normal gas production levels as soon as possible, he added.
