Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi has lauded Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) for its contributions towards the national drive to fight against the pandemic of COVID-19.

In a tweet on 31 March 2020, the Prime Minister appreciated ONGC employees’ decision to donate their two days’ salary to help the government combat the corona-crisis.

The Prime Minister tweeted, “Not only are the oil & gas sector PSUs energizing India’s growth trajectory, but they are also contributing to ensure the nation’s good health in the time of COVID-19 crisis. Special thanks to ONGC employees who have contributed 2 days’ salary to PM-CARES.”

The 30,100 employees of National Oil Company ONGC have voluntarily decided to contribute their two days’ salary – amounting to around Rs 16 crore – to the newly-constituted Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM CARES) Fund, to support the government in combating this national crisis.

The initiative by the employees of the Energy Maharatna came in wake of the massive disruption of normalcy, during a nation-wide lockdown, amid the escalating scare of the novel coronavirus.

ONGC has also allocated Rs 300 crore from its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to help those affected by the pandemic. ONGC, as a socially responsible corporate, has also been taking several initiatives to protect not just its employees and their families but several others in and around its operational areas who are in dire need of essentials.

Along with its social corporate responsibilities, ONGC has also maintained offshore and onshore operations round the clock to ensure uninterrupted supply of oil and gas in the country. Continuing its essential operations, the Energy Maharatna has also ensured full compliance of the government and the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines – like maintaining social-distancing, personal hygiene, work-from-home, etc.

ONGC CMD Mr Shashi Shanker, in a tweet on 30 March 2020, said, “I firmly believe, together we will overcome this national crisis.”
