Amazed by the first view of electric lights in his village, six-year old Ramesh (name changed) from Narayanpur Rail Basti village in Cachar almost thought it was a miracle when he heard his neighbors cheering for ONGC. As a part of its Swachhta Pakhwada 2019, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) inaugurated Solar Electrification in 100 household in Cachar. The Energy major also launched the installation of 60 solar lights in Ransai village, at Raigad district of Maharashtra.

Also eyeing to spread awareness on E-waste collections, the employees of ONGC’s Guwahati office, along with the collaboration partner United Global Trust, collected more than 25 tonnes of e-waste.

The Swachhta Pakhwada also marked the initiation of the Clean Himalaya Expedition along with the Indian Mountaineering Foundation. As a part of the expedition three teams of mountaineers reached Kedarnath, Munsiyari and Dharamshala. With main cleaning points as Gaurikund, Jangle Chati, Ramwada, Bhimbali, Linchili, Ghodapadaw and Kedarnath team that trekked to Kedarnath collected 20 bags of garbage with the help of the locals. The Munsiyari team collected 8 bags of trash, while the Dharamsala team collected 88 bags from Triund and Illaqa areas and 32 bags from Mcleodganj.

At Gandhinagar of Gujarat, ONGC  Ahmedabad Asset took up deepening of 15 lakes – which they assured will be help improve the ground water scenario in the region.

Further spreading awareness on cleanliness, the Swachhta Pakhwada also included Walk for Swachhta rallies – named Walkathons – at different parts of the country. Cyclothone – a cycle rally was also organized at Dehradun – from Tel Bhavan to ONGC Officers’ Club via Garhi Cantt area.

ONGC’s Swachhta Pakhwada further witnessed the launch of four waste management projects at Bhaktivedanta Gurukula and International School (BGIS), Mathura of Uttar Pradesh. The projects include:

• Flower waste management cum perfume units. 
• Rural waste biogas plant.
• Cow dung urine products units (Herbal phenyl, dung based crockery, flower pots, dung based wood for crematorium, dung based interior paint, incense making, organic manure etc).
• Supply Chain waste management through procurement of vehicles required for collection of dung, urine flowers and household waste from the nearby villages.

The 15 day-long Swachhta Pakhwada concluded with valedictory function organized at DUB, Delhi, in presence of Director (HR), Dr Alka Mittal, Chief (CSR), Mr SSC Parthiban, Head Co-ordination, Mr HSP Singh and others. Nukkad Natak was performed by Ashmita theatre group where they spread messages of cleanliness and awareness towards hygiene. This was followed by a prize distribution ceremony for the winners of short film contest organized by ONGC.
