SPG India geared up for organizing its 12th Biennial International Conference & Exposition at JECC Jaipur from 17th -19th November 2017.
A common platform was envisaged to resolve & establish the technical ideas and practical experiences for improved interactions & knowledge sharing among E&P industries and academia. Society of Petroleum Geophysicists (SPG) India was established in 1992, with a small group of 30 Exploration Geophysicists 25 years ago at Dehradun.
SPG has made momentous progress, expanded its network by connecting E&P professionals, eminent scientists, Academic institutions and students with in country and abroad. SPG-India presently has ten Regional Chapters, including one overseas (N. America), 18 Student Chapters all over India. Its total membership has reached approximately 3000, which includes Life, Annual & Student memberships. SPG-India has held 11 International Conferences & publishes a half yearly technical journal “GEOHORIZONS”.
SPG is presently affiliated to international societies “Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG)” USA, European Association of Geoscientists & Engineers (EAGE) - Netherlands & Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists (ASEG), Australia.
The SPG-India, publishes half yearly technical journal GEOHORIZONS, which contains technical papers, case studies and activities of the various regional and student chapters regularly.
SPG started organizing Biennial International Conference & Exposition in 1996 at Delhi and is going to organize its 12th version from 17-19 November 2017 at Jaipur. The themes of this biennial event were always in tune with the prevailing situation in oil industry and challenges faced by it. It varied from Exploration in the 21st century to Leveraging Technologies for E&P Business for Mitigating Exploration Risks to Solutions through Technologies, Uncertainty to Possibility and the theme is “Energy through Synergy” for the current conference.
Over the years, the number of delegates attending the conference has gone to manifold along with number of technical papers presented in Oral and Poster session during this biennial event. SPG began conducting Pre and Post conference Continuing Education (CE) courses which have increased from 2 to 24 over these years. With a view to provide a common platform to E&P industry stalwarts for sharing experiences and knowledge, many events like Theme sessions, Plenary sessions, Key note addresses by industry luminaries, Interaction between industry & academia, Global affairs Committee meeting, CEO meet, Business forum etc. became the part of conference program.
The Biennial event of SPG has etched its name in international calendar of technical conferences. It has been amply displayed by the presence of Presidents of SEG, EAGE, ASEG& SPE and other industry captains during SPG conferences over the years. SPG has international affiliations with Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), USA, European Association of Geoscientists & Engineers (EAGE), Netherlands & Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists (ASEG), Australia.
The student chapters were opened at the leading universities & institutes. Various programs like Quiz, interaction with industry leaders and job fairs were organized for Post Graduate Earth Science students. The domain experts visited various student chapters to deliver the lectures. To address the problem of dwindling interest among the students towards Earth Sciences, school students were involved through Quiz and essay competitions and are also invited for attending the conferences Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), USA. The main event consist of 4 Theme, Plenary Sessions, Oral and poster technical Sessions, and Student Programs.
