Grandmaster Deep Sengupta of ONGC receiving his trophy at Glasgow Chess Grandmaster Deep Sengupta of ONGC has won the Commonwealth Chess Championship held at Glasgow, Scotland from June 30 to July 8, 2014. He defeated fellow Grandmaster Sahaj Grover in the final round to clinch his maiden Commonwealth Chess Title with 7.5 points from 9 games.
Aravindh Chidambaram (Scholarship Player with ONGC) won the Silver Medal 15 year old wonder-kid Aravindh Chidambaram, under Sports Scholarship with ONGC, contributed to Deep's title triumph by toppling overnight leader and defending Champion Abhijeet Gupta in the final round game, clinching Silver Medal in the process. Indians dominated the event winning 9 out of the top 10 placings and in all the age group categories as well.
International Master Lanka Ravi of ONGC accompanied the Indian Team as Coach for this annual event. Congrats Deep and Aravindh for making ONGC proud!
