Ravi takes over charge as Director General of ONGC Energy Centre
Mr Ravi took over the charge of the Director General of ONGC Energy Centre on 18 July 2022. ONGC Energy Centre Trust (OECT) was established under the Indian Trust Act on 8 August 2005 with a mandate to undertake or assist in programs/projects of Fundamental and Applied research for improving and developing commercially viable energy mediums and sources beyond hydrocarbons, especially in clean and or renewable energy options.
Presently, ONGC Energy Centre (OEC) is engaged in various challenging assignments including the development of the maiden geothermal field in Ladakh. The Hydrogen and Biotechnology Program of OEC is also gearing up in scale-up mode after the successful demonstration at lab scale and field trials, respectively. Additionally, OEC is engaged in the execution of many innovative R&D projects in the areas of CO2 valorization, uranium and helium, solar thermal, produced water treatment and kinetic hydropower.
Mr Ravi is credited for taking up many challenging projects and executing the same with positive outcomes. He has more than 34 years of wide-ranging experience in supervisory, managerial and strategic planning in Offshore/Onshore Drilling Operations and Offshore Engineering Services. He has also rendered his services at various positions in Eastern Offshore Engineering Services, Western Offshore Drilling Services and Assam Asset during these years.
Mr Ravi has an excellent track record in educational and professional domains as well. A Mechanical Engineer from BIT Sindri, he is MBA in Operation Research from IGNOU.
He joined ONGC on 11 July 1988 in Dehradun and subsequently, joined the Eastern Region Assam in Drilling Services at Rig E-2000-V. After his transfer to the Western Offshore, Mumbai, he worked as Rig Engineer at Sagar Ratna before joining as Barge Engineer on the same rig.
After graduating from Barge Engineer to Rigmover to In-charge Rigmove Cell, he did numerous rigmove, overcoming many challenges in East and West coast of India which also includes the salvaging of rig Sagar Ratna from a blowout at B-119/121 Platform. During his tenure in Rigmove Cell, he was involved in many critical rigmove such as Sagar Samrat, Sagar Pragati and Sagar Laxmi from respective locations to Shipyard in Abu Dhabi and Pipavav.
Mr Ravi has also pioneered in the utilization of the existing capacity of the unmanned platform by putting up Clamp-on, bridge-connected platforms and tie back of sub-sea wells with existing and new platforms.
He was instrumental in the dredging operation in the open sea for the first time in the history of ONGC which was close by Tapti tributaries at the unmanned platform NTP-1 to deploy the rig successfully.
He has introduced Blue View technology for re-entry of drilling wells at Exploratory Location. The technology was responsible for saving rig time and cost. Patent has been filed for the same technology.
Mr Ravi has also worked as Location Manager (Maintenance), responsible for the operation and maintenance of all the ONGC Jack up rigs. He joined the Eastern Offshore Engineering Services, Kakinada, upon his transfer from Mumbai after the re-vamping work of Monopod Platform GS-23-1 was completed under his supervision.
Prior to joining as DG-OEC, he has served EOA as Construction Manager-Onshore in the flagship Project KG-DWN-98/2 of ONGC responsible for the packages such as FPSO, Onshore Terminal at Odalarevu, and Project Management Consultancy and Owner’s Management Consultancy Services.
In addition, Mr Ravi has been awarded multiple times at the highest level for his significant contribution to the company, including the prestigious 'Professional of the Year Award' from CMD, ONGC, in 2014.
Upon joining as DG-OEC, he has conveyed that he will work in complete synergy with various verticals of ONGC Energy Centre and as per the mandate given to bring laurel to the Company. He is grateful to the ONGC Management for giving him the challenging assignment. He assured that he will give his best to meet the expectations of the Trust.
