In recognition of their excellent performance and commitment to fire safety, four ONGC Fire Services Officers were conferred with National Award on the occasion of Republic Day 2022. The President’s Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service was awarded to General Manager (Fire Services) - Rajahmundry Asset Dinesh Kumar. The. Fire Service Medals for Meritorious Services were awarded to Chief Fireman - Ankleshwar Asset Sanjay Kumar Ram Singh Kataria, Deputy Chief Fireman - Ahmedabad Asset Satpal Singh and Chief Fireman - Tripura Asset Swadesh Chandra Saha.

The President's Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service is awarded for long and distinguished service to individuals who have served at least 20 years in the Fire Services.  Individuals must be prior recipients of the Fire Services Medal for Meritorious Service and must have held that medal for at least five years. Fire Service Medals for Meritorious Services is conferred to the members of Fire Service in consideration of distinguished or meritorious service and outstanding devotion to duty.

General Manager (Fire Services) - Rajahmundry Asset Dinesh Kumar

Born on 21 June 1965 in District Mirzapur of Utttar Pradesh, Mr Kumar obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from Gorakhpur University and BE (Fire Engineering) from National Fire Service College, Nagpur, and joined ONGC Fire Services as a Fire Officer on 4 February 1989 at Assam. An outstanding professional, he has served at various work centers of ONGC in different parts of the country including Assam, Heera Offshore Process Complex of Western offshore, offshore HSE Mumbai, IPSHEM, Goa, Hazira and C2-C3 Dahej & Uran Plants and is presently posted at Rajahmundry Asset as In-charge Fire Services. Throughout his career in ONGC, Mr Kumar has always demonstrated his capacity and capability in performing his duties in an outstanding manner with keen initiative, firm resolve and utmost dedication.

Mr Kumar, being a keen learner, has also acquired a Diploma in Industrial Safety from Annamalai University, MBA in Human Resources from IGNOU and MSc (Disaster Mitigation) from Manipal University, Sikkim. He is certified International Oil and Gas operations safety professional from British Safety Council, UK.

He has been trained in India and abroad at National and International Institutes through Senior Management Programme of ONGC. In a career spanning more than 32 years in ONGC, Mr Kumar has exhibited has professional competence and dedication on various occasions in ONGC and outside.

Mr Kumar led his fire team from front for sanitizations of work place of   Rajahmundry Asset, ONGC and municipality areas of Narsapur, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh during Covid-19 Pandemic.

In view of his outstanding professional skills, his devotion to duties, commitment and invaluable contribution to the cause of fire safety systems & procedures in ONGC, Mr Kumar was awarded President’s Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service on the occasion of Independence Day, 2015.

Chief Fireman - Ankleshwar Asset Sanjay Kumar Ram Singh Kataria

Chief Fireman Sanjay Kumar Ram Singh Kataria, son of Late Sri Ram Singh, was born on 21 December 1964 at Dehradun. He joined ONGC Fire Services on 9 April 1987 at Ankleshwar as a Fireman Grade III and has risen through the ranks through his hard work and dedication to the post of Chief Fireman. He is very sincere and intelligent Fire Personnel and believes in Team work and goal achievement.

For over 32 years of service, Mr Kataria always remained in fore front in all activities related to fire Services be it Fire Fighting, or Maintenance of Fire Fighting Equipment.

He has immensely contributed toward the operational readiness of Fire Service at Fire Stations where he was posted time to time. He is very good in maintaining fire station control room record and activity.

He played very active role in Major Blow out incident at #Nada I, Gandhar 61, # 402; Gandhar, BHEL III, Olpad (2015) in addition to numerous other fire and emergency incident.

His hard work, sincerity, devotion to duty and discipline has been well appreciated by his superiors, top ONGC Management and he has received many commendation certificates during his tenure.

For his commendable service, dedication to fire safety, fire protection and firefighting operations in ONGC Fire Services throughout his service career spanning about 32 years, he was awarded Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Services on Republic Day 2022.

Dy. Chief Fireman - Ahmedabad Asset Satpal Singh

Dy. Chief Fireman Satpal Singh has been working in Ahmedabad Asset of ONGC for over 30 years. Born on 19 November 1963 in Chakgujjran village, Distt. Hoshiarpur, Punjab, Mr Singh joined ONGC Fire Services on 20 May 1991 as a Fireman Grade – III after passing his school examination. Since then, he has served in various capacities in all the operational areas of Ahmedabad Asset and is currently, working in the Maintenance Team as member for maintenance of Fixed & portable Fire Fighting Equipment, Fire Fighting Appliances, Rescue Gears, etc. at Ahmedabad Asset.

During his career spanning over 30 years, Mr Singh had always remained committed to his duties in the Fire Services, be it firefighting, fire prevention or maintenance of firefighting equipment. He played an active role in the rescue operations following the devastating earthquake on 26 January 2001 in Gujarat and contributed immensely in saving human lives and property of the affected area. Similarly, in the aftermath of the Godhra riots in Gujarat, Mr Singh was a key member of the Fire Services team which was deputed for relief operations. He had also actively participated in many major blowout control operations, the prominent ones being at Well No. 59 at North Kadi field in December, 1991, Well No. SKAD at South Kadi field in November 1991, Well No 108 at South Kadi field in November, 2001, Well No. 18 at Limbodara field in 2002, Well No. 345 at Gandhar field in 2001, Well No. 20 at Balol field in August 2003 and Well No. 12 at South Kadi field in December 2010.

Mr Singh also took part in the “Gujarat State Fire Drill Competition” organized by Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority in 2003 & 2004 wherein all Industrial Fire Services were participated and the performance of mr Singh was exemplary amongst all participants.

He always believes in innovative work and his contribution in the development of a hose rolling & carrying unit on an old trailer, tableau equipped with various firefighting equipment, utilization of nitrogen for development of water mist, etc are some prominent executions for the betterment of the Fire Services.

He has always displayed extraordinary keenness to involve himself in all Fire Fighting operations in which his fire station was involved. In fact, during his tenure in ONGC, he has already attended to more than 1000 fire calls and has fought successfully almost of these fires in an exemplary manner displaying professional skills of a high order.

Thus, in recognition of the outstanding services of Mr Singh in the area of Fire Safety, Fire Protection and Fire Fighting operations in ONGC Fire Services throughout his service career spanning 30 years, he was awarded the Fire Services Medal for Meritorious Service on Republic Day 2022.

Chief Fireman - Tripura Asset Swadesh Chandra Saha

Chief Fireman Swadesh Chandra Saha had joined ONGC Fire Services on 29 July 1985 as Fireman Gd – III and is presently holding the post of Chief Fireman discharging his exemplary services in Fire Services of Tripura Asset. Born on 2 August 1962 in West Tripura district, Mr Saha has completed his 36 years of glorious and eventful service life in ONGC Fire Services. He is well known for his sincerity, proactive approach and hard works in his duty times for which he has received appreciations and recognitions from authorities. He is well accepted by his colleagues with high reputation for his gentle and amicable nature in personal behaviour with others.

Mr Saha has received a number of awards and certificates of merit from ONGC for his exemplary contributions towards maintaining safety during operations and for his dedications and sincerity in duty during the long 36 years of his service life.

Apart from attending numerous emergency calls and standby duties, Mr Saha took active parts in the control operations against major incidents like # Trishna 3 Blowout Fire in 1989 and Gas Well Fire at # Gojolia 3 in 2016.

In recognition of the outstanding services of Shri Saha in the area of fire safety, fire protection and firefighting operations in ONGC Fire Services throughout his service career spanning more than 30 years, he was awarded the Fire Services Medal for Meritorious Service on Republic Day 2022.
