In recognition of its efforts in the field of Information Security, ONGC has been conferred with ‘Best Security Practices in Energy Sector’ Award at the DSCI Excellence Awards 2021. The prestigious award was conferred by the Data Security Council of India (DSCI) during the virtual ceremony of its sixteenth edition of the Annual Information Security Summit (AISS) on 16 December 2021. Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) N Raman received the award on behalf of ONGC. The award was presented by Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, Ajay Sawhney.
A glimpse of the virtual award ceremony
ONGC bagged the award for showing maturity in security practices in all aspects of Information/Cybersecurity pillars viz. adoption of security policies on contemporary technologies, monitoring of organization wide Information Security alerts through Information Security Operation Centre (ISOC), maintaining the global best practices in Information Security by complying Information Security Management System (ISMS), getting external threat intelligence by collaboration with government agencies such as Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), Intelligence Bureau (IB), National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre (NCIIPC), etc and automated these threat intelligence with ISOC.
In order to spread awareness among its employees in Information Security domain, ONGC regularly conducts a variety of activities throughout the year viz. organizing Information Security Awareness talk by external domain experts, conducting mock drills on phishing attack, issues advisories on Information Security, publishing e-newsletter and many more. Moreover, ONGC has procured cyber insurance and taking steps to build cyber security in its supply chain.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Raman said that this award is the testimony to the efforts under taken in the field of Information Security in ONGC and acknowledged that this has become possible thanks to the efforts of the Team CISO and cooperation and support of Infocom and ONGC Management. He highlighted that to be a leading digital nation and successful adoption of digitalization depends on our ability to secure our IT enabled technologies. This award will encourage ONGC for continual improvement in the field of Information Security.
