ONGC - ONGC Football Team clinches Sikkim Chief Ministers Gold Cup
The ONGC Boys rejoicing with the TrophyKeeping its glorious record alive and making a lasting impression on the Nation's football map, the ONGC Football team humbled the nation's top ranking teams: From Royal Wahindgoh - a North-East I-League 2nd Div club team during the league stage to Port Trust of Kolkata in the Quarter final and finally beating Air India (I-League team) in the final. ONGC Blue boys' win is the second occasion of scripting the success story after its previous win in the year 2009-10. Chief Minister of Sikkim Pawan Kumar Chamling, the Chief Guest on the occasion, presented the trophy to ONGC Football Team. Besides winning the trophy, the ONGC boys won the hearts of thousands of football loving Sikkimese for their discipline on and off the ground, humble attitude and fair play including cooperation with the Referees and organizers that earned a special place for the name of ONGC. The score line in the tournament was 2-0 against Royal Wahindgoh scored by Lavino Fernandez & Hassan, 2-1 against Kolkata Port Trust scored by Lavino Fernandez and F. Lalmuanpuia and in the final 2-1 against Air India scored by Kailash Patil and Lavino Fernandez. The Coach of the team Mr. C. Pinho, who recently qualified in the AFC 'B' License at Goa, played a pivotal role in the anchoring of the movements of the team. Mr V.K. Mahendru, GM-Head Sports and other senior officers of ONGC hailed the performance of the ONGC Football team and congratulated the ONGC Football players.
