ONGC Videsh supports Cham Community House in Vietnam

ONGC Videsh has supported the newly constructed Cham Community House in Vietnam through extending a financial support of USD 600,000. H.E. Pranay Verma, Ambassador of India in Vietnam inaugurated the House on 18 October, 2020 at Bau Truc Village in Phuoc Dan town, District Ninh Phuoc, Province Ninh Thuan. Mr. Le Van Binh, Standing Committee member of the Provincial Committee and Vice Chairman of People Committee of Ninh Thuan was at the venue as a mark of respect.

Dr. M. M. Sethi, Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City and Shailendra Nath Rai, Country Manager, ONGC Videsh, Vietnam were also present on the occasion. Mr. Le Pham Quoc Vinh, Director of the Project Management Board, Ninh Thuan graced the event with his appreciation note.

In 2018, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the People Committee of Ninh Thuan Province and ONGC Videsh Limited as part of a goodwill gesture. Herein, ONGC Videsh agreed to provide the much-coveted financial assistance for constructing the Cham Community House with an estimated cost up to USD 862,000.

Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Mr. Pranay Verma endorsed the funding efforts of ONGC Videsh for the Cham Community House and other social activities in the Baria region. He added that the special move will help Cham community to preserve its rituals, art and dance forms and strengthen the economic and cultural cooperation between India and Vietnam.

Mr. Le Pham Quoc Vinh presented the project in detail and thanked ONGC Videsh for its major contribution.

While addressing the gathering, Mr. Le Van Binh lauded the management of ONGC Videsh for their financial concern. He recognized that the House construction will help in preserving the intangible traditional culture of the Cham community and promote local tourism.

The grand inauguration ceremony showcased traditional dances and Cham folk songs of more than 120 villagers of Bau Truc highlighting beauty of the cause.
