ONGC in Forbes list of World Best Employers

ONGC ranks 377 in the Forbes Global list of 750 World Best Employers compiled in partnership with Statista, the market research firm. It came up in the fourth annual survey conducted across 58 countries covering 160,000 workers of companies operating in multiple regions. These surveys were rolled out anonymously in the June-July period for employee participants to willingly rate and recommend their employers among relatives and friends. They also evaluated other employers in the category coming from their respective industries.

Participants also provided ratings on the basis of their satisfaction level towards the employer COVID-19 concerns. The employers were offered scores over image, economic footprint, social responsibility, talent development and gender equality. The final compilation has 750 large and multinational corporations with headquarters in 45 nations. Although, the US dominated this list with 247 entrants and Europe had 224, Asia and Oceania were not far behind including 208.

Many firms listed here were not immune to the impact that COVID-19 led on their workforce. Corporations are facing lawsuit accusing them of not providing a safe working environment due to dying of their employees. However, the scenario is changing with such corporations making big investments meant for workplace safety, especially frontline people. They are spending billions on COVID measures that include distributing face masks to employees and mandating augmented cleaning procedures at sites while implementing temperature checks.

Regular, quick COVID testing is being ensured at worksites on set targets. Epidemiology specialist doctors were enlisted early during the crisis to devise and enable process changes throughout workplaces in coordination with enterprise global safety team. Employee relief funds were let open with expanded criteria for employees facing pandemic prone financial hardships. Engagement programmes with physicians, tutoring support sessions, Michelin chef cooking classes, co-worker virtual dance party are plying in weekly office hours to boost workplace morale.

Some companies have adopted remote working permanently for promoting mental health and well-being in areas lacking medical infrastructure.

This year, amidst the crisis of the pandemic, ONGC’s COVID-19 response has also been recognized by the Stevie Awards for Great Employers. ONGC won the prestigious international award – Silver Stevie Awards for Great Employers as the Most Valuable Employer - Asia Pacific in the COVID-19 Response category.

Earlier in 2019, ONGC ranked third largest in India and 220 worldwide in the Forbes Global 2000 World Largest Public Companies List. The list is evaluated on the basis of a composite score of revenue, profits, assets and market value of public enterprises from across the globe.
