ONGCian Sourav Kothari won 2019 Reventon Masters Snooker at the RACV club in Melbourne Australia, defeating Johl Younger of Australia 6 games to 5, in a nail-biting six-hour best of 11 final.
Sourav, thus, becomes the first Indian to win Australia's biggest Champion of Champions Snooker event organized under the auspices of the Australian Billiards and Snooker Council, where only 12 current top-ranked players of Australia are invited.
This year Sourav was a special invitee as he won the Reventon Classic Snooker – a Triple Crown snooker event of Australia, organized a few months back.
Sourav Kothari with his trophy
At one stage, Sourav was down 2 frames to 5, with his opponent needing just one frame to win. At that juncture, in a do or die situation, he displayed splendid ‘cuemanship’ and rattled his opponent with sustained aggression, crafting breaks of 95 and 78; thereby levelling the scores to force a decider.
Thereafter, in a battle of attrition, Sourav managed to pull off the frame and the match with his vast experience and repertoire of shots. Sourav also got the honor for making the highest break of the tournament – a break of 124.
