On 24 October morning, timely action by ONGCians at Canaguinim beach, near IPSHEM Goa, rescued five boats of distressed fishermen. These fishermen were in panic due to Cyclone Kyarr warning and were struggling to bring their fishing trawlers to shore for safe keeping during high tide.
ONGCians from various work centers were at IPSHEM, from 21 – 25 October, for training on Breathing Apparatus course. As a part of this program, as well as part of `Swachhta Abhiyan program’ at Beach, a PT and Parade session was organized from 06:30 hrs to 08:00 hrs at Canaguinim beach for the trainees.
ONGCians rescuing fishermen’s boats at Goa beach
On arrival at beach, the team noticed that few fishermen were struggling to retrieve their boats from the sea, as it was high tide and cyclone warning was also given to them on that day. Immediately after arrival, without hesitating, all trainees along with PT instructor and ONGC faculty came forward and started helping the fisherman and one by one rescued their five boats to the elevated place. It was raining heavily and ONGCians were totally drenched with rain water.
With this, ONGCians had shown the best example of Team Work. Even in tough situation like cyclonic condition in sea and heavy rain, they pushed themselves forward and helped the fisherman to rescue their boats. ONGC once again demonstrated that it takes care of the society and always ready to help wherever need arises.
This training program at IPSHEM Goa was led by PT instructor Mr Viyen Azavedo and IPSHEM Fire Officer Mr Krishna Shirodkar. ED-Head IPSHEM Mr Atul Garg congratulated all the trainees of the course for their service to the society irrespective of heavy rain.
