ONGC has been conferred with the ‘Toilet Titan’ award at the fourth edition of the India Today Safaigiri Summit & Awards. The award was presented by the Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation Mr. Nitin Gadkari. The award was received by the Executive Director-Head Regional Office, ONGC Mumbai Mr. S Gopinath on behalf of ONGC at a glittering ceremony in Mumbai.

ONGC, under the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Mission, has built 39,513 toilets till date. During the FY 2017-18 alone, 21,372 toilets - IHHLs, community toilets and school toilets have been built in various districts across the country, at a cost of Rs. 88.98 crore.

Earlier, during a panel discussion at the India Today Safaigiri Summit & Awards, ED-HRO, ONGC Mumbai, Mr. S Gopinath shared the challenges faced during the construction of toilets and their sustainable maintenance. He also shared about the Gangotri Glacier cleaning, ONGC’s Everest Expedition and other CSR projects. His fellow panelists were Bollywood singers Mr. Shahid Mallya and Ms. Meghana Mishra.

The journey of Swachchta in ONGC started with the clarion call from the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan from Rajghat on 2 October 2014. In the last four years, ONGC has undertaken various initiatives to make the Swachh Bharat Mission of the Hon’ble PM a success.
From the high altitude mountains of the Himalayas to the holy city of Varanasi, ONGC’s swachch footprints can be traced across the country. At ONGC, Swachchta is no longer a compliance but has become a habit for the company as a part of the CSR and business activities.
