ONGCians continue to strike on the 11th day of ongoing Asian Games 2018 at Jakarta by clinching three Silver and one Bronze Medals today. The Bronze Medal won by A Amalraj, Harmeet Desai and G Sathiyan is the first-ever medal in Table Tennis for India at Asian Games. Jyothi Surekha won the Silver Medal in Compound Women’s Team, Rajat Chauhan won the Silver Medal in Compound Men’s Team and M. R Poovamma and Hima Das won the Silver in Mixed 4X400m Relay. This has taken ONGCians Medal Tally to 10 in the ongoing Asian Games.
Congratulating ONGC sportsperson on their stupendous performance, Shri Shashi Shanker, CMD, ONGC said, “This is a proud moment for the company as ONGC sportspersons continue to bag more and more medals for the country. Also, winning the first ever medal in Table Tennis at Asian Games for India is one of the biggest achievements for ONGC in the field of sports”, he added.
An Arjuna Awardee, Jyothi Surekha from Vijaywada joined ONGC on scholarship roll in January 16, 2013. In 2011, she won two Bronze Medals at the 2011 Asian Archery Championships.
Rajat Chauhan from Rajasthan joined ONGC on scholarship roll from October 2014. He won the Gold Medal in last Asian Games held in 2014 in the same event.
M. R Poovamma, an Arjuna Awardee, hails from Mangalore and joined ONGC in May 2012. Hima Das joined ONGC on a scholarship roll from 1st April, 2018.
A Amalraj from Tamil Nadu joined ONGC in July 2008. He was conferred the Arjuna Award in 2017. In 2018 Commonwealth Games held at Gold Coast, Australia, he won the Gold Medal in Men’s Table Tennis Team event.
G Sathiyan from Chennai, Tamil Nadu joined ONGC in August 2011. With this win, G Sathiyan has become India’s highest ranked player in the latest International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) rankings while Harmeet Desai from Surat, Gujarat joined ONGC in December 2014.

Thirty-eight ONGC sportspersons are in the Indian contingent for the Jakarta Asiad, the biggest participation from corporate India. In the ongoing Asian Games 2018, ONGC sportspersons have bagged 10 medals including 6 Silver and 4 Bronze till date.
Today, ONGC has 40 national awardees in the organization (Padma Bhusan - 1, Khel Ratna – 1, Padma Shri – 3, Arjuna – 34 & Dhyanchand Award – 1). In the recently held Common Wealth Games 2018 at Gold Coast, Australia, ONGC sports person bagged 13 medals including 5 Gold, 3 Silver and 5 Bronze, contributing to the 66 medal tally for India.
