ONGCian and India’s No. 1 Seed, Ankita Raina has won the bronze medal in Women’s Singles Tennis for India at the ongoing Asian Games 2018 at Jakarta. Also ONGC Scholarship Shooter 15 year old Shardul Vihan has won Silver in Men’s Double Trap Shooting event.
Congratulating Ankita and Shardul on their stupendous performances, ONGC CMD Shri Shashi Shanker said, “This is a proud moment for the entire Nation and ONGC in particular. We look forward to more such stellar performances by our sports persons at the highest level.”
With this medal at the Asian Games 2018, Ankita becomes only the second Indian lady player to feature in the Asian Games list of singles medalists. Recounting her journey with ONGC at an earlier interview in June this year, she said, “ONGC has been of great help because it’s tough with tennis with the traveling and expenses. It is a privilege to be No. 1 in the country. In such a big country with such a huge population I feel pride and I have always wanted to represent my country”.
Ankita Raina who hails from Ahmedabad joined ONGC in March 2014. She has won six singles and thirteen doubles titles at the ITF tour and won Gold medals in women’s singles and mixed doubles events at the 2016 South Asian Games. Ankita recently won her second title this year at an ITF $25,000 event in Thailand.
Shardul Vihan who hails from Meerut joined ONGC on scholarship roll from October 2015. He took up the sport in 2014 and started competing a year later. He took part at the junior championship in the double trap event in 2015 and 2017.

Thirty-eight ONGC sportspersons are in the Indian contingent for the Jakarta Asiad, the biggest participation from corporate India. ONGC has a rich legacy in promoting sports and bringing laurels for the country. On 19th August, ONGC’s Apurvi Chandela secured Bronze in the 10 m air rifle mixed team event.
